John Snow MRTPI, Director and Founder of Tetrick Planning

I have worked in planning for more than 20 years, starting my career in local government before moving into the private sector. I am a Chartered Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute and hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Town Planning.

Since then, I have worked across everything from minerals and waste and major strategic land development to commercial development and new-build restaurants. This included two years working for the consultancy responsible for advising on McDonald’s UK new-build restaurant programme, where I formed part of the senior team delivering planning advice across the portfolio.

I then moved into private planning consultancy and established Tetrick Planning in 2020.

That breadth of experience matters because difficult planning problems rarely fit neatly into one box. My particular strength is taking a challenging site, working out what is actually preventing it from moving forward, and identifying the most effective route through.

That might involve an enforcement issue, a change of use, a constrained infill development, a refused application or a site where the obvious planning strategy simply is not working. Straightforward sites are welcome too—but it is usually the awkward ones where I add the most value.

I am commercially minded and developer-savvy. I understand that planning advice has to work in the real world: the scheme must remain viable, the business must still be able to operate and consultants’ fees need to be proportionate to what is realistically achievable.

My advice is direct, pragmatic and based on evidence. I will tell you where I think there is a credible route forward, what the risks are and where money genuinely needs to be spent. Equally, if I think you are pursuing the wrong strategy—or spending money on something unlikely to work—I will say so.

I also manage wider project teams where required, from obtaining and comparing quotations to instructing architects and specialist consultants and coordinating their work throughout the planning process. Over the years, I have built a trusted network covering almost every technical requirement a planning project is likely to generate.

Every Tetrick Planning project remains director-led. You will deal with me directly and I provide the planning strategy and direction throughout. I am supported by a small team of trusted planning contractors, allowing us to handle projects efficiently without passing clients down through layers of junior staff.

There are cheaper services available if all you want is somebody to submit an application.

That is not what Tetrick Planning offers.

The value is in choosing the right route, anticipating the difficult questions and putting forward the strongest possible planning case. Our case studies and results show that this approach works—particularly on sites where permission was never going to be straightforward.
